Brenda and Mo sent this to me last week. I needed a break from the blog because as beege knows, I get headaches. Although I have been filled with joy; this past year has been hard on those of us who were volunteers for Obama for America. I needed a little time to rest, because now the real work is about to begin. I've got my mojo back now, and I've also remembered how to breathe again. So, thanks to my two partners in the struggle for sending this powerful message. I'm sure they knew I would share it with the world.
Here are the words from our dear sister, Alice Walker, to our President-Elect, Barack Obama.
Nov. 5, 2008
Dear Brother Obama,
You have no idea, really, of how profound this moment is
for us. Us being the black people of the Southern United
States. You think you know, because you are thoughtful, and
you have studied our history. But seeing you deliver the
torch so many others before you carried, year after year,
decade after decade, century after century, only to be
struck down before igniting the flame of justice and of law,
is almost more than the heart can bear. And yet, this
observation is not intended to burden you, for you are of a
different time, and, indeed, because of all the relay
runners before you, North America is a different place. It
is really only to say: Well done. We knew, through all the
generations, that you were with us, in us, the best of the
spirit of Africa and of the Americas. Knowing this, that you
would actually appear, someday, was part of our strength.
Seeing you take your rightful place, based solely on your
wisdom, stamina and character, is a balm for the weary
warriors of hope, previously only sung about.
I would advise you to remember that you did not create the
disaster that the world is experiencing, and you alone are
not responsible for bringing the world back to balance. A
primary responsibility that you do have, however, is to
cultivate happiness in your own life. To make a schedule
that permits sufficient time of rest and play with your
gorgeous wife and lovely daughters. And so on. One gathers
that your family is large. We are used to seeing men in the
White House soon become juiceless and as white-haired as the
building; we notice their wives and children looking
strained and stressed. They soon have smiles so lacking in
joy that they remind us of scissors. This is no way to lead.
Nor does your family deserve this fate. One way of thinking
about all this is: It is so bad now that there is no excuse
not to relax. From your happy, relaxed state, you can model
real success, which is all that so many people in the world
really want. They may buy endless cars and houses and furs
and gobble up all the attention and space they can manage,
or barely manage, but this is because it is not yet clear to
them that success is truly an inside job. That it is within
the reach of almost everyone.
I would further advise you not to take on other
people's enemies. Most damage that others do to us is
out of fear, humiliation and pain. Those feelings occur in
all of us, not just in those of us who profess a certain
religious or racial devotion. We must learn actually not to
have enemies, but only confused adversaries who are
ourselves in disguise. It is understood by all that you are
commander in chief of the United States and are sworn to
protect our beloved country; this we understand, completely.
However, as my mother used to say, quoting a Bible with
which I often fought, "hate the sin, but love the
sinner." There must be no more crushing of whole
communities, no more torture, no more dehumanizing as a
means of ruling a people's spirit. This has already
happened to people of color, poor people, women, children.
We see where this leads, where it has led.
A good model of how to "work with the enemy"
internally is presented by the Dalai Lama, in his endless
caretaking of his soul as he confronts the Chinese
government that invaded Tibet. Because, finally, it is the
soul that must be preserved, if one is to remain a credible
leader. All else might be lost; but when the soul dies, the
connection to earth, to peoples, to animals, to rivers, to
mountain ranges, purple and majestic, also dies. And your
smile, with which we watch you do gracious battle with
unjust characterizations, distortions and lies, is that
expression of healthy self-worth, spirit and soul, that,
kept happy and free and relaxed, can find an answering smile
in all of us, lighting our way, and brightening the world.
We are the ones we have been waiting for.
In Peace and Joy,
Alice Walker

Enjoy this original performance. I did. Yesterday, since it was dress down Friday, I wore an Obama and Dr. King T-shirt and jeans to work. The kids made a Soul Train Line and the danced to ths during the "Funky Dance Friday" after lunch. During the Morning Message they made a line and danced to Chocolate City. I asked them to do that one for me, since, since my days as a young college student I have always hoped we would indeed have a Chocolate City during my lifetime. I was overjoyed. I now call each one of them President (whatever their last name is). They love it, but, I think I love it even more than they do!

Prayer goes where we cannot. The power of prayer is greater than one can imagine. Living in faith has its miraculous outcomes, to which I am a living witness.God can do all, except fail. We are witnessing history being changed, because we are willing to change. Now, I have life lasting memories to share with my grandchildren, whenever I am blessed with that joy. They will hear how their great-grandmother, grandmother and father pulled levers together that morning, levers that changed the course of history, on November 4, 2008. Aint God good, y'all? Indeed, He is!!

This morning, at 5:41, we went to our polling site. How beautiful it was to see a line of folk waiting to cast their votes to make Senator Barack Obama the next president of America. Son O' Mine, took a picture of me pointing to Senator Obama's name on the ballot. I was so consumed with emotion. That picture will become my screen saver. My mother, my son and I...three generations of people ready for change, hope for a better future. Yes, we can and I know we did!!

James, from N.C. sent this to me, I think it is so funny, so I had just had to share. I hope you like it.
Post Turtle
While suturing a cut on the hand of a 75 year old rancher, who's hand was caught in the gate while working cattle, the doctor struck up a conversation with the old man. Eventually the topic got around to Palin and her bid.
The old rancher said, 'Well, ya know, Palin is a 'Post Turtle''.
Not being familiar with the term, the doctor asked him what a 'post turtle' was.
The old rancher said, 'When you're driving down a country road you come across a fence post with a turtle balanced on top, that's a 'post turtle'.
The old rancher saw the puzzled look on the doctor's face so he continued to explain. 'You know she didn't get up there by herself, she doesn't belong up there, and she doesn't know what to do while she's up there, and you just wonder what kind of dummy put her up there to begin with'.

As soon as I can transfer the images, you will be delighted to see President Obama and The First Family along with those who are dedicated to making it happen. He is a man who is worth having our children aspire to emulate. The qualities he demonstrates on a daily basis makes me proud to support him. If pictures are worth a thousand words, than this is a 26 volume encyclopedia. My favorite is the shot with his feet on his desk. It SHOWS us WHO HE REALLY IS! I love him, I love him, I LOVE HIM! I will post it as a reminder to those who think it is not their obligation to vote. You and I have every reason to not only vote, but, to take someone else to the poll with us. I can hardly wait until the 4th. Too bad we can't vote early AND vote often. My one vote will make a difference and so will yours. Unfortunately, I am unable to post the pic. If you have my email address, and I haven't sent it to you, email me and I will forward it to you ASAP.

I guess we are never satisfied. I wanted to wear my new sweaters, sweater dresses and dark hose this season, couldn't wait for fall to really get here...hell, I was freezing my buns off out there in my cute little fall trench coat today. Can we take it a little a time, please? I am just not ready to break out the muk-luks and parka yet LOL. Maybe it was the chill I got when I read how much money Sarah Palin and her family's wardrobe cost the RNC. I think we've got us a scandal in the hopper. Whaddaya think? Talk about it while I go make a mug of cinnamon apple tea.

Well, the class is being broken-up and redistributed due to low registration. We have already bonded and become a family; now, we are being torn apart. My co-workers' faces were so sad and their eyes were so red from crying until my own heart was breaking every time I looked at them. We knew this space was not ours, but it was home for 6 hours and 57 minutes every day. Our room was personalized and the children felt ownership. Having to take down all of our work and leave the walls bare, made me feel empty inside. Yes, we are fortunate that no one was excessed, however, we had such wonderful trips planned and many wonderful adventures for our class to experience. My prayer is that wherever they go, someone realizes each one is truly magnifcent in his or her own right.

I hit a Home Run yesterday with my prediction about Senator McCain. What? Was he sitting on a pin up his, well you know, its the same word as before that rhymes with gas. How rude to continuously interrupt Senator Obama. And the little girl from 7th Grade behavior of rolling his eyes, gimme a break! Did he think he was in the school yard or something? As per his norm, Senator Obama was as cool as a cucumber. Why was Senator McCain writing at hello? What was there to write about at hello?...Seriously, tho...c'mon. The constant pouting was such not a good look. Hey Beege, if you're out there, Happy Birthday to ya, miss ya,. Welcome aboard, Dirk. Feel free to comment.

Last night, Ted Koppel hosted "The Last Lynching," on Discovery. I was educated by watching this program and I was amazed to find out the last person who was lynched in America was lynched in Alabama in 1981. I was pregnant with my own son then and thought we'd been long past the days of lynching in America. My posts are not only dedicated to the memory of Sean Bell, but I have now included Michael Donald, because, really, we should NOT forget. We are living in times where hatred is covert and you would never know some of the folk who harbor hatred in their hearts. Times like this require us to pray AND to BE AWARE. Get to know what local meetings are being held in your community. Find out who is attending and listen to what they are discussing. The only way not to repeat that history is to recognize the behavior and avert it. Become active and stay active. As Rev. says so often, it must be SUSTAINED. Be about it and stay about it.

Taking Off The Masks

Hey, Thanks for the mention today, Star. I hope you take a look and make a comment on what you see or whatever is on your mind. We as a people with a voice, and that means all of us, should take every opportunity to be heard. We've got to let ourselves be heard. Someone who is in the midst of thinking, "No one else knows what I am feeling," can keep it together when they see or hear a word that is a vote of confidence or a hug of assurance, at a time when it is needed most. Take off the mask and let down your guard so that you can be strength to someone who is feeling weak. One day,it will be your turn.

What Is Really Going On?

As I watched CNN early this morning, I saw President Bush begin his message to the nation at 7:55 am. It was scheduled for 8:05. Why did it start and end before it was even supposed to start? Very brief, indeed. A few hours later, I heard North Korea is no longer on our list of terrorist countries. I thought they were considered by us to be one of the most hated countries on the global unisphere, what happened? Did we blink? Did they stutter? I hope it works out for worldwide peace. We sure can't keep on the same path we've been travelling on. What do you think is really going on?

If you haven't registerd to vote, there are just a few precious hours left. Don't be the one who waited until it was too late. I know some of us are guilty of operating on CP Time some of the time, but, we have got to shake that one loose for the enrichment and betterment of our country. If on the morning of November 5th, you wake up to news you don't want to hear, AND you didn't vote, PLEASE KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT!! You will be one of the people that I will be giving the Evil Eye to. LOL I have every belief we will be victorious on Election Day, and with all of us using our collective votes wisely, you should too.

Words From Donna Brazile
Dedicated to the memory of Sean Bell...Respect... ...VOTE...Fight, Fight the Power, You've GOTTA Fight the Powers That Be! (Thanks, Isley Brothers and Public Enemy)
I heard a clip on Michael Baisden's show, this week. He played it a few times, and each time, I was more impressed with Donna Brazille's take on this year's nominee for the Democratic Party. She really hit the nail right on the head. The description of Barack Obama's zygote beginnings of life in the womb of a White woman, as a Bi-Racial Human Being, to his being raised by his Caucasian grandparents, maintaining grades that would send him to Harvard and Columbia, in no way could earn him an "uppity" moniker as has been attributed to someone who had to make and find a way out of a different upbringing than many of us have experienced. Uppity, by no means, reaching up to achieve the best life possible and reaching out to others, in no way makes Senator Obama uppity. It makes him a determined, hard-working and sensitive individual who has his finger on the pulse of what our country is in the midst of living through. In some ways, he is nothing like many of us and in other ways he is just like many of us. Who hasn't had to strive under difficult circumstances and still keep their wits about themselves and keep their eyes on the prize? I do it every day and I'm sure most of you do it, too. We are more alike than not. For the CHANGE America needs, I think Barack Obama is the man to do it. He is MY CANDIDATE FOR PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.

Well Now, Isn't THAT Special

Well.. at least I can say, I think he tried. Except for making a reference to Senator Obama, while not calling him by his name and instead calling him, "THAT ONE," I think Senator McCain tried his very best. It fell short and was not good enough, to be elected president, but his performance was a far cry better this go 'round than the last debate. Each senator spoke his talking points and answered according to his frame of reference. I do believe this is the first time I heard Senator McCain mention the Middle Class. Finally, he has heard the news...now, if he could just get Gov. Palin to read something other than "Outdoor Fisherman" or "Moose on the Loose." Just one New York Times article could kind of clue her in, even if maybe just a little bit. I am happy Senator Obama has coached himself not to say eeer, and aahhm so much. He certainly sounded like President Obama to me. Make sure you ask everyone in your cypher if they're registered to vote. We just have two days left to register in New York.

Tonight...Round 2...Will there be a change in Senator McCain's demeanor towards Senator Obama, or will he continue being a pompus horse's patoot? I have little faith that he even knows how to play fairly. If you have any doubts, check out the posting I made a few days back, that came from someone who had the unfortunate incidence to be in his company while vacationing. What a pompus... and I don't want to say horse's patoot again. It rhymes with gas, oh yeah, you know what it is. I will try to keep an open mind but I don't guarantee any promises. I just can't wait until the people speak on November 4th.

It was fourteen years in the making, and the decision was handed down on the exact anniversary. OJ is going to jail for perhaps the rest of his life. Did he get away with murder or was he the potential victim of a frame-up and his money bought him the finest lawyers in the land to prove his innocence? Most likely, we will never know. I don't think OJ's finest hours will ever be the topic of conversation again. He ruined any chance of that when he wrote his account of the murders in, "If I Did It." Real jackass move, if you ask me. He will forever be spoken about in less than flattering, agitated tones. How could a so-called All-American, Apple Pie eating, Airport Running, Hertz Driving, Acceptable Negro, like OJ, wind up being the most hated man in America? I think he bought his own hype and forgot who he really was. When you allow someone else to define you, you are who you are only until they decide you are no longer needed, and then you are a nobody. Define self for self. I LOVE Imhotep Gary Byrd's opening that features Sweet Honey in the Rock singing the Kwanzaa song. If nothing else, it reminds me of just how magnificent I am in my own right. Not anymore than the next person, but wholeness in myself all by myself. It should be a required teaching of all parents to their children, practiced at all times in their homes, regardless of race, creed, color, ethnicity, or religious affiliation, that we empower our children with the knowledge that they do not have to look outside of themselves to be validated. We MUST teach all children to name self for self. If not, OJ will not be the last brother to go down because he bought the hype. C'mon P.E., let's go: "Don't, Don't, Don't Believe the HYYYYPPEE!!!!!......." YOU are WHO YOU say YOU are! Ya best ta believe it, man!

Better than the OTHER Debate
Dedicated to the memory of Sean Bell...Respect... ...VOTE...Fight, Fight the Power, You've GOTTA Fight the Powers That Be! (Thanks, Isley Brothers and Public Enemy)
Senator Joe Biden and Governor Sarah Palin offered me a warmer, gentler style last night that was a far cry from what we saw from the Presidential Debate. Aside from the fact the timbre of Gov. Palin's voice made me want to go play in four lanes of traffic, she ingratiated herself to the American public when she began by asking Senator Biden, "Hey, can I call you Joe?" It told me she heard the folk on the street respond to Senator McCain's rude demeanor towards Senator Obama. Although I still don't feel she would be a good candidate for leadership of the free world, at least she learned how to speak to the people. Her answers proved she is lacking in many areas, and isn't as well read as she needs to be, but, I found her to be a good balance to the cardboard personality Senator McCain presents. Senator Biden made me feel as if, God forbid, President Obama would be unable to fulfill the term of his elected office, the country would still be in good hands under his leadership. What so you think?
Happy Birthday, Rev. Al!! May you have many more.

Chicago Sun-Times film critic Roger Ebert did not appreciate the nonverbal behavior of Sen. John McCain during Friday's first presidential debate with Democratic nominee Sen. Barack Obama.
The longtime movie reviewer took personal offense at McCain's body language, particularly the GOP senator's failure to even look at Obama.
The following is Ebert's blog in its entirety:
Guess who's not coming to dinner - by Roger Ebert
I do not like you, John McCain. My feeling has nothing to do with issues. It has to do with common courtesy. During the debate, you refused to look Barack Obama in the eye. Indeed, you refused to look at him at all. Even when the two of you shook hands at the start, you used your eyes only to locate his hand, and then gazed past him as you shook it.
Obama is my guy. If you are rude to him, you are rude to me. If you came to dinner at my house and refused to look at or speak with one of my guests, that would be bad manners and I would be offended. Same thing if I went to your house. During the debate, you were America's guest.
What was your problem? Do you hold this man in such contempt that you cannot bear to gaze upon him? Will you not even speak to him directly?
Do you think he doesn't have the right to be running for President?
Were you angry because after you said you wouldn't attend the debate, he said a President should be able to concern himself with two things at the same time? He was right. The proof is, you were there. Were you angry with him because he called your bluff?
During the debate, Jim Lehrer repeatedly called upon both candidates to speak directly to each other. Obama looked at you. He addressed you as 'John,' which as a fellow senator is his privilege. His body language was open. You stared straight ahead, or at Lehrer, or into space. Your jaw was clinched. You had a tight little smile, or a grimace, or a little shake of your head.
I had to do two things at once while watching the debate. I had to listen to what was being said. And I had to process your rigid and contemptuous behavior. If you were at a wedding and the father of the groom refused to look at or speak to the bride, how would that make you feel? Especially if you were the father of the bride?
You made a TV commercial showing the moments Obama agreed with you.
Everybody knows he did. Did his agreement show honesty, or weakness?
It is significant that you said it proved he was not ready to lead.
What is the better leadership quality: (1) Willingness to listen to your opponent, and keep an open mind? (2) Rigidly ignoring him? Which of the two of you better demonstrated the bipartisan spirit you say you represent? Was there anything he said that you agreed with? Could you have brought yourself to say so?
I'm not the only one who noticed your odd, hostile behavior. Just about everybody did. I'm sure many of your supporters must have sensed the tension. Before the debate, pundits were wondering if you might explode in a display of your famous temper. I think we saw that happen, all right, but it was an implosion. I have instructed my wife to exclude you from any future dinner parties.

This shocking account was written by Ana
Dubey, a friend of my cousin and her husband, who have known Ana for
many years. Ana has a PhD in psychology and has a private practice
in San Francisco. My cousin's husband went to business school with
Ana's husband, who has since started and sold a number of successful
companies. Ana's husband is currently a Managing Director of a
private equity firm in the Bay Area.
Ana and her husband are not political activists and don't have any
personal ax to grind. In fact, in writing this account of her
experience with John McCain, Ana is acting outside of her own
economic self-interest as she and her husband are among the top 3-5%
of our population who would benefit from the McCain tax/economic policies.
(Please pass this on to anyone you know who might vote for John
McCain. Also please post it on blogs and send it to newspapers and radio
stations.)
MY HOLIDAY WITH JOHN McCAIN
It was just before John McCain's last run at the presidential
nomination in 2000 that my husband and I vacationed in Turtle Island
in Fiji with John McCain, Cindy, and their children, including
Bridget (their adopted Bangladeshi child).
It was not our intention, but it was our misfortune to be in close
quarters with John McCain for almost a week, since Turtle Island has a
small number of bungalows and their focus on communal meals force all
vacationers who are there at the same time to get to know each other
intimately.
He arrived at our first group meal and started reading quotes from a
pile of William Faulkner books with a forest of Post-Its sticking out
of them. As an English Literature major myself, my first thought was
"if he likes this so much, why hasn't he memorized any of this yet?"
I soon realized that McCain actually thought we had come on vacation
to be a volunteer audience for his "readings" which then became a
regular part of each meal. Out of politeness, none of the vacationers
initially protested at this intrusion into their blissful holiday,
but people's buttons definitely got pushed as the readings continued
day after day.
Unfortunately this was not his only contribution to our mealtime
entertainment. He waxed on during one meal about how Indo-Chine women
had the best figures and that our American corn-fed women just
couldn't meet up to this standard. He also made it a point that all
of us should stop Cindy from having dessert as her weight was too
high and made a few comments to Amy, the 25 year old wife of the
honeymooning couple from Nebraska that she should eat less as she
needed to lose weight.
McCain's appreciation of the beauty of Asian women was so great that
David the American economist had to move his Thai wife to the other
side of the table from McCain as McCain kept aggressively flirting
with and touching her.
Needless to say I was irritated at his large ego and his rude
behavior towards his wife and other women, but decided he must have
some redeeming qualities as he had adopted a handicapped child from
Bangladesh. I asked him about this one day, and his response was
shocking: "Oh, that was Cindy's idea - I didn't have anything to do
with it. She just went and adopted this thing without even asking me.
You can't imagine how people stare when I wheel this ugly, black
thing around in a shopping cart in Arizona. No, it wasn't my idea at all."
I actively avoided McCain after that, but unfortunately one day he
engaged me in a political discussion which soon got us on the topic
of the active US bombing of Iraq at that time. I was shocked when he
said, "If I
was in charge, I would nuke Iraq to teach them a lesson."
Given McCain's personal experience with the horrors of war, I had
expected a more balanced point of view. I commented on the tragic
consequences of the nuclear attacks on Japan during WWII -- but no,
he was not to be dissuaded. He went on to say that if it was up to
him he would have dropped many more nuclear bombs on Japan. I rapidly
extricated myself from this conversation as I could tell that his
experience being tortured as a POW didn't seem to have mellowed out
his perspective, but rather had made him more aggressive and vengeful
towards the world.
My final encounter with McCain was on the morning that he was leaving
Turtle Island. Amy and I were happily eating pancakes when McCain
arrived and told Amy that she shouldn't be having pancakes because
she needed to lose weight. Amy burst into tears at this abusive
comment. I felt fiercely protective of Amy and immediately turned to
McCain and told him to leave her alone. He became very angry and
abusive towards me, and said, "Don't you know who I am." I looked him
in the face and said, "Yes, you are the biggest asshole I have ever
met" and headed back to my cabin. I am happy to say that later that
day when I arrived at lunch I was given a standing ovation by all the
guests for having stood up to McCain's bullying.
Although I have shared my McCain story informally with friends, this
is the first time I am making this public. I almost did so in 2000,
when McCain first announced his bid for the Republican nomination,
but it soon became apparent that George Bush was the shoo-in
candidate and so I did not act then. However, now that there is a
very real possibility that McCain could be elected as our next
president, I feel it is my duty as an American citizen to share this
story. I can't imagine a more scary outcome for America than that
this abusive, aggressive man should lead our nation. I have observed
him in intimate surroundings as he really is, not how the media
portrays him to be. If his attitudes toward women and his treatment
of his own family are even a small indicator of his real personality,
then I shudder to think what will happen to America were he to be
elected as our President.

nomination in 2000 that my husband and I vacationed in Turtle Island
in Fiji with John McCain, Cindy, and their children, including
Bridget (their adopted Bangladeshi child).

I can't even write another political or economic post today. My brain is weary. I will however, thank God for a beautiful day. Big Daddy and I will continue to enjoy the sunshine and easygoing two-day reprieve from work as we chill out and just enjoy doing nothing and a whole lot of it. Tomorrow, we will start to worry again, but as for now, I think we'll go out for a walk and enjoy the autumn day. Take some time out for a view of the new autumn day.

The Shrub
Dedicated to the memory of Sean Bell...Respect... ...VOTE...Fight, Fight the Power, You've GOTTA Fight the Powers That Be! (Thanks, Isley Brothers and Public Enemy)
At 8:45 this morning, I waited with baited breath to hear what George Shrub had to say. I still don't know anymore now than I did before. What about you? Did you hear anything that made you feel safe and secure? I didn't... I stopped hearing him after he said millions of people would be in jeopardy of losing their pensions. After the shock wore off, I just prayed like I told all of us we needed to do. Happy Rosh Hashanah, to all of my friends are celebrating their new year.

Dedicated to the memory of Sean Bell...Respect... ...VOTE...Fight, Fight the Power, You've GOTTA Fight the Powers That Be! (Thanks, Isley Brothers and Public Enemy)
Remember when you were a child and everyday was a new adventure? Well, it is time for us to think like children again so that we can find something to look forward to every day. I have been so bogged down in the mundane and the ridiculous, that I have not looked at the beautiful sunshine that today brought, after many days of cloudy skies and bad news. Find your bit of sunshine today, and if anyone tries to bring you down, sing a chorus of Mr. Golden Sun, even if it doesn't make you feel better, you'll make someone else feel better, Try it!

So, What Did You Walk Away With?
Dedicated to the memory of Sean Bell...Respect... ...VOTE...Fight, Fight the Power, You've GOTTA Fight the Powers That Be! (Thanks, Isley Brothers and Public Enemy)
Well, it is the morning after, and I am not basking in the afterglow. I will watch the rebroadcast this afternoon, at 4 E.T.,hoping to get a different feeling, but, I'm not so sure I will. Was I the only one who noticed that Senator McCain could not look Senator Obama in the eye? Even after repeatedly being asked to speak to each other, never once did I catch Senator McCain return Senator Obama's gaze. I know, from my very limited scope, that when someone is lying about something, they find it difficult to make eye contact. Even after Senator Obama said something that was said by Senator McCain referring to Senator Obama was incorrect, Senator McCain kept on as if what he were saying were factual. I wanted Senator Obama to say, "Hey, wait a minute John, what you're saying is untrue. Here are the facts." Ever the gentle statesman, he stayed true to form. He was more forceful than he has been in the past, but I need more, because we are at critical mass and manners aside, we need our plan of action laid out squarely on the table. Additionally, Henry Kissinger may have to look back and review his own words from a few weeks ago, if indeed he says Senator Obama misspoke regarding his views. As I watched Rachel Maddow, she and I thought perhaps we'd landed in the Twilight Zone. Mark Riley,on WLIB, here in New York, has a wonderful program that airs 7-9 on 1190 AM. His political astuteness and his finger on the pulse keep me on my toes. It was actually on his program that I heard the better suggestion of how we need to assist American citizens in distress, whose dreams became nightmares. I will go one step further, what about forgiving college loans to those who offer their service to their municipalities or military?
This was just the first of three debates, it will only show Senator Obama as a strong candidate who has what it takes to bring people together and build bridges rather than divide us against the rest of the world. Do not fall for the McCain okey-doke, because there is no wizard behind the smoky glass mirror.
Don't forget, those of you in New York, NAN's Annual Convention is this coming Friday and Saturday. I had a difficult time trying to register online, however, when I called, I was able to register without a problem. Be sure to register and show up. There is no charge. We will pay dearly if we miss out on the message which is sure to include voter registration and election practices. By the by, Happy Birthday, Rev. Al!! He'll be celebrating his birth annivarsary during the convention. I wish you many more!

My cousin sent me an email about the savings and loan scandal of 20 years ago, that the Republicans have hoped we have forgotten. It involved the other shrub, oops, there I go again, Bush, brother whose name they'd rather we forget. Neil Bush and friends caused a whole lot people to lose a whole lot of money, if my memory serves me correctly. I will Google later for all of the names involved. However, her email mentioned five senators whose involvement was shaky at best and perhaps not in the best interests of the people at worst. Guess who's on the list? None other than Senator John McCain. And now he wants to help? Help with what? How about starting with the folk who had no savings left after you guys made sure Neil and crew got away. How about giving those people back what is rightfully theirs, then maybe we'll want to hear from you. What about retirements that vanished? What do you hsave to say to those people? I'm going to Google right now, and so should you.

Well, I 'm glad Senator McCain decided he needs to show up tonight. Unfortunately, because he waffled for the past few days, I'm not sure how many folk will show up to my Debate Watch Party. Not to worry, we'll have another and another until Election Day and a Watch Party that night, too. If you need applications to register others to vote, check with your local Councilmember. In New York, there have been conflicting stories as to whether or not we are allowed to wear our candidate's gear to the polling sites. From when I was a Poll Watcher and Polling Site Captain, those of us who were PAID workrs could not electioneer. The voting public could wear whatever they wished to wear. Who knows definitively in New York? Has there been a law on the books that hasn't been enforced and they may choose to enforce this year? If you know, please give us some clarity. I do know each state has different regulations however, the federal law DOES NOT PROHIBIT the wearing of campaign gear. What is the reg in your state?

700 Billion to bail out rich people who already mismanaged in the first place? Sounds like some switcheroo-doo-doo to me. What about as Michael Baisden suggested, give half to those companies in distress, minus the bonuses and golden parachutes, and let them grow it, and give the other half to the middle class who tried to live the American Dream and it became a NIGHTMARE. Help the people keep their homes. That would be the real assistance needed to save the American economy.

What is it that we need to do to bring peace into the valley? I am so tired of violence for no reason at all. I read an account in today's newspapers regarding Sunday night's incidents. What I read and what I saw definitely did not match up. I will not say SOMETHING happened or didn't happen, I don't know. What I do know is I saw people who were not served and protected by those who were hired to do so. What I saw consisted of people being taken advantage of by people who over-stepped their boundaries. It is time for PEACE IN THE VALLEY. How can we bring it about? By the by, on the way to to work this morning I registered 3 new voters. Have you registered anyone, yet? There is still time.

Serve and Protect? I REALLY Don't Think SO
Dedicated to the memory of Sean Bell...Respect... ...VOTE...Fight, Fight the Power, You've GOTTA Fight the Powers That Be! (Thanks, Isley Brothers and Public Enemy)
Why, after a day of beautiful weather and watching the African-American Day Parade, did all hell bust out in Harlem last night? I witnessed NY's Finest beat up on young men of color just because they could hide behind a badge and a gun. I really did not want to believe my eyes. but, I had to. I heard the sounds of nightsticks against bodies, I saw blatant acts of behavior unbecoming to the uniform. My father so proudly wore this uniform, so many years ago, that yesterday, was used as a tool of harassment against the very people who were supposed to be served and protected. It was more of abused and neglected, disrespected and mistreated, provoked and tormented. I kept asking why, yet I received no answers that satisfied my query. Why is there always hell up in Harlem? NYPD, please hear my plea, if this is not the place you want to be, please get the HELL OUT OF HARLEM and go to where you feel as if you can actually treat people with courtesy, professionalism and respect. We will ask for officers who relate to and respect the members of the community. If you were out there, and you saw what I saw, please write Governor Paterson, Mayor Bloomberg, Police Commissioner Kelly, Congressman Charles Rangel, Assemblyman Keith Wright, Rev. Sharpton and your clergy man or woman. We must stop the strong arm tactics that ONLY happens in our community. Enough is enough!

Apostrophe s
Dedicated to the memory of Sean Bell...Respect... ...VOTE...Fight, Fight the Power, You've GOTTA Fight the Powers That Be! (Thanks, Isley Brothers and Public Enemy)
Okay, I'll admit on the list of important things in life, this isn't ANYWHERE near the top half-million; however, that being said, IT DRIVES ME NUTS when someone adds an apostrophe for absolutely NO REASON AT ALL!!!! Since when is boys now BOY'S or Senior Citizen's Discount on WEDNESDAY'S, followed by MATINEE'S on FRIDAY'S. The last time I checked, FRIDAY'S was a place to take the kids (or is that now KID'S?) out for a family meal treat. I can't tell you how many times I have seen signs that made me cringe. I just cannot trust a merchant who didn't take the time to consult a proof reader or ask the sign painter to check for accuracy. ( I know, this is coming from someone who has had to go back and edit this very blog. Sometimes, in the heat of the moment, I wasn't as careful as I should have been and had to go back and revise...it happens...but trust, you'd NEVER see a misspelled sign on my place of business...it'd NEVER happen.) It is worse for me than hearing someone say pacific for specific or axe for ask. So, that is my little idiosycratic rant for today. What is your apostrophe s?

Routines
Dedicated to the memory of Sean Bell...Respect... ...VOTE...Fight, Fight the Power, You've GOTTA Fight the Powers That Be! (Thanks, Isley Brothers and Public Enemy)
Sometimes, they're the only saving grace in such questionable times we're living. Other times, they are the death of a dream unfulfilled, a destiny never sought, or fear that prevents us from trying. Getting stuck in routines that pose no challenge or add to a greater goal only serve as tools to stagnation. Creating new, better, harder, uncertain of the outcome routines awaken our senses, motivate us to be stronger, go faster and fly higher to obtain the goal...sacrifice's child. Yes, sacrifice...we must let go of the old sometimes to make room for the new...routines(habits), things, people, jobs, neighborhoods, whatever it is, if it is just a routine, let it go in favor of progress-toward motion. Together, let us move forward, move courageously forward, as a matter of fact, to get out the vote this coming Election Day. Register someone, take someone to the polling site if you know they are registered, give out forms to anyone who will be 18 by Election Day, (that includes Election Day), they can register now to vote, if a person who has a record with a felony conviction is finished with probation and parole, he/she may re-register to vote. Let EVERYONE you know know this, too many sisters and brothers are in the dark about this. The routine of ignorance to the facts hidden from plain sight must end; we MUST seek out the knowledge. EDUCATE, EDUCATE, EDUCATE!!

Pastor couldn't have been any more right today, even if he'd tried. He simply said, "When someone walks out of your life, let them." Thanks, Pastor. I love you for saying that.

Don't, Don't, Don't, Don't, Don't Believe the HYPE!!
C'mon folk, everyday I'm hearing some new ish about the power of Sarah Palin...Palin alright. Pale in comparison to a qualified woman who could have served as second in command in a capacity that would have givern us what would be her best valiant effort, even if it is ALL WRONG for our collective benefit. Condoleezza Rice is the darling of the GOP. She actually has the qualifications to keep the George Shrub, oops I mean Bush policies in place as McCain pretends to be in charge. I guess it was unthinkable to have her aboard. What would that say to the not so long out of the white robes backers and those who think the Voting Rights Acts should be overturned with no possiblity of it ever becoming a law? That would never do. I think I saw the same close up of the lone Af-Am appearing man at the GOP Convention, 18 times. An extreme close up of him, while everyone else was in wide angle shots. I hope at least he was well paid. The hype WILL die down and we will get back to the business of putting the Republican Party out of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue and ushering in the Obama Family...Chocolate City Style. All you P-Funkers out there, you know what I mean!

Gremlins All Around
Dedicated to the memory of Sean Bell...Respect... ...VOTE...Fight, Fight the Power, You've GOTTA Fight the Powers That Be! (Thanks, Isley Brothers and Public Enemy)
Of course, during this very instrumental time of history, the internet would pick now to want to give me LOTS OF TROUBLE!!! I've wanted to say so much, but I've been silenced by computer gremlins...aaarggh!!!! Well, it seems I'm back! So much has happened. Why oh why, seriously, why are people falling for the old okey-doke? Sarah Palin believes her daughter made a choice, but YOU"D BETTER NOT EVEN contemplate the thought of any other woman having a choice over her own reproductive organs. What's with the finger pointing? Instead of what others haven't done, I still don't know what she's done...except lose $600,000 on an airplane sale gone bad...and what about the bridge to nowhere??? Where's the money??? Old devil himself Adolph, oops I mean Rudolph Giuliani, made me want to repeatedly spit at the television screen. He was so vile, long-winded and mean spirited that I almost turned away, but, I needed to hear his rhetoric. He hasn't changed since the days he called Honorable Mayor David Dinkins a "glorified washroom attendant." I was yawning so much during McCain's speech I can't even point out anything of interest. I think Obama and Biden have to step up and strike back. Of course, not below the belt, as has happened to them, but cover the fist with a velvet glove. How often do we take the high road only to be pooped on by the pigeons flying above? I love and respect the Obama Movement and campaign, but now is the time or we face greater challenges in November. PLEASE become involved. Visit the website and make donations through DaObamaMama Page there. Look for picture from my Watch Party to appear there soon, now that I can get back online. Ciao for now, what are your thoughts?

Long Time Away, But Not Gone
Dedicated to the memory of Sean Bell...Respect... ...VOTE...Fight, Fight the Power, You've GOTTA Fight the Powers That Be! (Thanks, Isley Brothers and Public Enemy)
Whew, it has been hectic. The Caroline Kennedy intro of Senator Ted, Michelle Obama's family gathering and Hil's speech last night were standouts in so far an otherwise mediocre DNCC. Time to get back to work. Please visit the Obama for America site and make a donation to the campaign from my fundraising page called DaObamaMama. My goal is to raise $800 by the end of October. Won't you please help get the Obama/Biden ticket to the While House?

It REALLY IS Time To Make A Change
Dedicated to the memory of Sean Bell...Respect... ...VOTE...Fight, Fight the Power, You've GOTTA Fight the Powers That Be!
RIP Isaac Hayes, Mr. Truck Turner himself, A bad mutha...shut yo' mouth!
This is JUST TOO MUCH! Please sisters and brothers, eat right, exercise, pray, and listen when your body is telling you something. Even if we do everything right, there are NO GUARANTEES. Isaac was found next to his still running treadmill, at the time of his demise. Like I said "no guarantees," but we MUST do all we can, to be here as long as we can with a quality of life worth remaining alive for. On another note, to my fellow Obamaphiles, register your email or text VP to 62262 to receive Barack Obama's message to his supporters as to his choice for Vice President is; you will receive notification before it is announced to the general public. The announcement is expected soon. Peace out and peace within, Lin

Whus gwaan, 'ere n dere
Dedicated to the memory of Sean Bell...Respect... ...VOTE...Fight, Fight the Power, You've GOTTA Fight the Powers That Be!
There is something going on here. Ba(Rockstar) Obama been getting his chops bust up. Britney Spears, Paris Hilton and Barack Obama mentioned in the same breath? Only in McCain's world. DO NOT BUY Obama Nation however, do take it out of the library or read it online. If it is deserving of your cash, then by ALL means, make it part of your home library with a copy of your own. The timing of this tome by the same author who discredited John Kerry, is a carefully planned distraction. What about the "banner bros. and their empathyists? (Is that a real word or did I just make that one up?...u no wha i mean doe. lol) The Ludacris lunacy? Whus gwaan, 'ere? It is time to fight back with action not reaction. Instead of letting himself be defined by the Republican machine, Senator Obama has to be proactive in stating who he is, what he stands for, what he has changed his original answers to and why, (we are ALL entitled to change our minds, YES, EVEN CANDIDATES FOR PRESIDENT), address the 11.7 BILLION DOLLAR PROFIT EXXON/MOBIL EARNED THIS QUARTER...while we pay $20 for a loaf of bread, a half-gallon of milk, a jar of peanut butter, a bunch of bananas, a dozen eggs, a box of grits and a can of pink salmon that all fits into one bag. I remember when all of this was considered "cheap" food...Who is going to address these everyday kinds of issues to the voting public? This is what is on the mind of the nation. When corn that was 10/$1.oo is now 3/$2.49, we are in trouble. When a pound of lower sodium Boar's Head Ham is $9.69, we are in really big trouble How will Senator Obama, when he is President Obama, begin to rein in this awful, ridiculous spiral we are spinning down? What does Senator McCain propose? He so often has stated what Obama ISN'T doing, that I don't recall what McCain IS doing? In New York State, Governor Paterson has unequivocally stated it will be painful. Mayor Bloomberg hasn't yet lowered the boom. One can only wonder what the city will slash. How will the MTA scrape us down to bare bone to close their questionable deficits? As the prices go up and big business' profits also rise, what happens to the other 97% of us? Does either candidate have a viable plan or answer? What I do know is, we need all of the friends we can get as a nation. So many enemies have been made during the past seven and a half years, many are secretly delighting in our national woes. Others are enthusiastically awaiting a political change so they can offer an outstretched hand of help. We can't be friends with everyone, as we still must choose our friends wisely, however we sure don't need to make anymore enemies. So much has been on my mind, with random and stray thoughts hanging on to every corner of my brain. These are some of mine...what are yours?

Hot Fun in the Summertime
Dedicated to the memory of Sean Bell...Respect... ...VOTE...Fight, Fight the Power, You've GOTTA Fight the Powers That Be!
All of the activities that I have participated in this summer have given me a deeper appreciation for my city. From Shakespeare in the Park, to The Jazzmobile at Grant's Tomb, The Floating Pool, The NOBLE Parade through Harlem, Summerstages both at the Adam Clayton Powell State Building and Central Park, to Mondays in Wingate Park, Tuesday Pier 81 Boatrides, Thursdays at South Street Seaport, movies on practically any night shown out of doors in Marcus Garvey Park, Bryant Park, Central Park, Crotona Park and the other local city parks, there is so much to do! If ANYONE is bored it is because they choose to be. For the price of your MetroCard and your packed bag of goodies, one can spend a carefree day celebrating the fact that we live in the greatest city in the world! I haven't yet gone to Governor's Island, Roosevelt Island, Ellis Island or ridden the Water Taxi. There is still an entire month left of experiences to be had. Tonight, The Rhythm Makers are at the State Building. C u there!

Random Thoughts or Great Ideas, It's Just How YOU View It
Dedicated to the memory of Sean Bell...Respect... ...VOTE...Fight, Fight the Power, You've GOTTA Fight the Powers That Be!
Picture this, President Barack Obama and Vice President General Colin Powell. SHHHHHH! Don't say anything. Just take in those words and see it in your mind.. January 2009, Inauguration Day. Now, the General has the much sought after military background and foreign government experience. The President brings a collaborative style of leadership that works with rather than run rough shod. It would be a much safer America with a combination of Obama/Powell than McCain/Anyone. If you've noticed, Gen. Powell has been noticeably quiet regarding an endorsement for either candidate, but has stated his pride in Senator Obama's effort; much more than he's done for Senator McCain . Harlem Week (Month) is upon us! The Grant's Tomb Kick-Off Sunday, was so great! Val and I made friends everywhere we went in the park. Plan to meet some of the folk at Jazzmobile tomorrow night. Yes, we are taking advantage of all of the FREE concerts and more reasonably priced activities, during this time of staycationing and trying to hold on to a dollar and make it SSTTTRRREEETTTCCCCHHHHH. We stopped in The National Black Theatre on Sunday to bid Dr. Barbara Ann Teer a peaceful journey. She was breathtakingly beautiful and the Spirit of the Ancestors were unmistakeably present. I could not believe how touched I was to my very core. The drummers made me move in ways I hadn't danced since Mrs. Gary's African Dance classes that I took in the 70's. I had no control over these movements as they came from a place deep within that connected those drumbeats to my very own heartbeat. It will be unforgettable. It was a privilege and honor to be able to connect at that place, in that time, in saying, "See you later," to Dr. Teer.
Well, it has been one month and two days of the daily workout. I missed three days due to the heatwave. After going out the first day of it and thinking "This is not such a good idea", I decided to do something else instead of the track. And, the two days it was like a monsoon, I couldn't get out there, was a break in the routine. I am down a size and very pleased about that. I am looking forward to seeing what I can comfortably live with as a daily routine to continue exercising daily when my vacation ends. My pressure is great without any artificial prescription medication and I feel fabulous. What's going on with you? So what are you thoughts, comments or ideas? Write on, but as for me, I'm out...
