Fat Tuesday

Dedicated to the memory of Sean Bell and Michael Donald...Respect... ...VOTE...Fight, Fight the Power, You've GOTTA Fight the Powers That Be! (Thanks, Isley Brothers and Public Enemy)

Happy Black History Month! Question of the Day: Has anyone seen Bonnie?

Mardi Gras...Fat Tuesday... A symbol of excess and then atonement. We, although now in a deep national financial crisis, are a nation of excess. We waste more than many need, we expect undeserved favored treatment and have no regard for those who have differing political policies. Along with the change we voted for, we need a time of atonement for the ills we have caused worldwide. For all who know me, coffee is a major part of my morning. Students from years gone by, come by and inquire if I still need two cups of coffee in the morning before the children can ask me any questions. None of them have ever realized that is just a tactic to keep them quiet and on task so they don't disrupt one another as they focus and concentrate. By the time the two cups of coffee are gone, we are in the full swing of the morning and everyone one is engaged. I must devise a new tactic for the next forty days. Because I appreciate the sacrifice that was made for me on that old rugged cross, I will bid coffee farewell for forty days and nights. All of the debauchery associated with Mardi Gras should be replaced with reflection tomorrow. Reflect why the Governor of Louisiana would deem money from the Stimulus Package as unwanted by his state. Look right past Bourbon Street and tell me where the residents of the Lower Ninth Ward are. Until everyone who wishes to return home actually gets there, they are still displaced citizens. Fat Tuesday is over in just a few hours...then what? What have you given up and why? What is the lasting impression you make? What are doing to make a difference, a change or an improvement? I'm starting with the woman in the mirror. I will send off a missive to the Governor of Louisiana and remind him of the many people who want to go back home. In fact, I will write him until he writes me back. What are you going to do? "Now is the time," as just spoken by Our President, Barack Hussein Obama.

Answer to the Question of the Day: She's gonna make me sing... I know it doesn't make sense to you, but those of you in the know, know exactly what I mean. I'm massaging my vocal cords as I write. LOL
